Avoid USPS Surcharges With Standard Postcard Templates

February 16, 2009

Marketing Tips

Before you place an order for a custom-sized Postcard Printing job that you’re planning on actually mailing out, make sure the card conforms to USPS size regulations. Otherwise, you could get dinged with some seriously expensive surcharges.

How to Reduce Costs With Standard Postcard Templates

To qualify as a small postcard (and a reduced postage rate), your postcard must not exceed 6” long by 4 ¼” high. It can’t be smaller than 5” long by 3 ½” high and must be in a rectangular shape. To make sure your postcard print job adheres to these standards, you can use the free Postcard Templates on the MyPostcardPrinting.com website.

Large postcards (which are charged at the same rate as letter mail) should not exceed 9 ¼” long by 4 ¼” high. MyPostcardPrinting goes up to 11” by 6” for our postcard printing, but if you opt to mail a larger card, you may be required to pay a $0.20 per piece postal surcharge.

You’ll also be subject to paper stock restrictions that require any mailed postcards to be printed on a minimum thickness of card stock. Here at MyPostcardPrinting, we do all of our postcard printing on either a heavy-duty 14 pt. cover stock or a slightly lighter, 13 pt. uncoated cover stock – both of which exceed the USPS paper stock standards for postcards.

Postcards Marketing

Once your postcards are ready for mailing you should consider using our cutting-edge Postcards Marketing service. Our postcard mailing services include: Free List Prep, Address Ink-jetting, CASS Certification, Pre-sorting, 2-3 Business Day Turnaround and much more!
