Postcard Mailing List Tips 101
February 20, 2009
No matter how well written or designed your Postcard Mailing campaign may be, it’s only as strong as its mailing list. For a direct-mail postcard to be successful it has to be addressed to the right people and it’s as simple as that.
Postcard Mailing List Tips
Some of our clients here at MyPostcardPrinting build their own opt-in postcard marketing lists from various sources, like their client list, while others rent a mailing list (a service we offer, starting at $0.04/name). Before you build your own postcard marketing mailing list, or rent one, here are a few criteria you should look for in a list:
1. National vs. Regional
Do you want to send postcards out across the country or are you only interested in your city or even your own zip code? With mailing lists, you can zero right in on a particular geographic area or really broaden your search. For example, let’s say you’re opening a new location for your dry-cleaning business. Obviously, mailing promotional postcards to residents who live 10 miles away isn’t very productive. With geographic mailing lists, you can focus on potential customers within a 1-mile radius, making your campaign more efficient and cost-effective.
2. General Lists vs. Specific Targets
Did you know you can rent mailing lists that are focused on just newlyweds, new parents, retirees, teachers or students? Of course, you can also focus on other professions or specific targets. This tactic is a great way to target a specific Postcard Marketing campaign. For example, let’s say you run a photography service and you’re launching a special kid’s package. You can narrow down a rented mailing list to include just new parents or families in your area with children under a specific age. You could even narrow that list down to only focus on families above a certain income level.
3. Business vs. Personal
If you’re targeting the business-to-business market, your mailing list needs are going to be smaller and significantly more specific. Here at MyPostcardPrinting, we can help arrange a targeted mailing list rental for your next postcard marketing campaign. Remember, the more targeted your mailing list, the more money you’ll pay per name. However, a few extra cents per name for a targeted list could save you thousands on printing and mailing costs.

Yes I agree with you, whether it’s postcard mailing or direct email campaign you’re sending, it’s really best if it is addressed directly to the right person.
